Centenary Celebrations

Rua Reidh was one hundred years old in January this year but the weather wasn't too great for celebrations then so we held back until May 22nd in the hopes of a nice day!!
We have heard from many past residents of Rua Reidh and hope to welcome a few of them at the Lighthouse in May.  we are working with the Gairloch Heritage Museum to make a really special day with a look at the old light workings and fog horn in the Museum then going out to the Lighthouse between 2 and 4pm for tea and a look around the station before an evening talk and get together back in Gairloch in the evening.
Chris and Fran are really looking forward to hearing a few old stories about life at Rua Reidh and hope to record some of these to go on display in the visitor centre.

Where did the summer go?

I see it was June when I last posted on the blog.....you can tell its been a busy summer.  The weather has now turned changeable with the usual Equinoxal gales.  The local White Tailed Eagle chick has fledged but still looks a bit ungainly in flight.  We have seen Divers pausing from flight at Rua Reidh for a fish supper this month and   had many sightings of a pair of otters feeding on the shore by the Lighthouse.
new Year is now fully booked but we still have Christmas available up to the 27th December.  We open the book for room reservations in November but are taking bookings for the principal keepers accommodation as a self catering let now.  The accommodation sleeps 15 and is let on a minimum booking of two nights.
Our croft has Rare Breed Pork now ready and our chicks are laying well.
Have a good Autumn.

Summer guided walks and family activities from the Lighthouse

We start on our summer schedule for guided walks and family seashore events from July 1st.

Wild About Gairloch

The Festival is in full swing if a little dampened by the weather today!  As well as running our own activities we have managed to attend the Tree Trumps Trail, The Wildlife Quiz, Wildlife Market and a Wild flower Walk.  We sadly missed the Ceilidh due to plumbing problems but intend to make the Sea Eagle Talk tomorrow.

See us on facebook (we hope)!

After a fantastic two day course on Social Media this week we are trying to keep up with the times , struggling but we hope Rua Reidh Lighthouse is now on facebook.  Next challenge is to set up a link to this blog and back.  Luckily the weather has turned wet and windy so don't mind staying inside.
